Can you believe it? It is the 1st of June already?
Since Avery Explorers landed, with a great presentation and talk by Tom Avery himself at the start of December 2007, time appears to have disappeared beneath us! We have had fantastic support right from day one from the surrounding scout groups, with the unit meeting every Thursday night at Ticehurst scout hut.
So far this year, our weekly program has included a vast range of events from the simple (such as logo design, wide game planning and friendly card games) through skills (such as lashings, navigation and cooking) onto the active (such as a night hike on the forest, indoor climbing, 'Ultimate Frisbee' and, of course, the Overland). We keep running out of days in which to fit everything in!
However, it doesn't stop there!
We have put together an experienced leadership team to support the Unit and we have big plans. Over the next six months we will be putting together our three year plan to ensure all of our Explorers have exposure to a balanced program throughout their time with us. In their final year, we intend to encourage our Explorers to take on the challenge of the Explorer Belt!
Although our numbers are growing, we are very keen to hear of scouts in our area who may be interested in moving on to Explorers. We will be doing our best to get to know all of the leaders and scouts in the area, but it will take us some time! Our longer-term target is for regular link up events with the local groups, but until then it will have to be a much more personal approach!
All that is left for us to say is "thank you" for all the support you have all offered us so far and thank you to every Explorer who has come along. As a new unit, it is great to be made to feel welcome!
See you all soon!

Scott 100 years on
100 years ago today, Captain Scott and his team reached the South Pole. As everyone knows, they were beaten to the prize by a mere five weeks by the Norwegian Roald Amundsen and perished on the return journey. Scott (centre)...
Countdown to Winter
It's been a busy few months on the speaking front (this summer's talks venues have included the Maldives, Dubai, Transylvania, Basel, Antibes and, er, Milton Keynes) but it's now all systems go gearing up for the forthcoming winter. Exciting changes...
